There are two types of collectors in the solar water heating systems.
One type is the flat-plate collector and the second is the evacuated tube collector.
Evacuated tube collectors work like vacuum flasks; they are completely empty, hence the name "evacuated", and collect and trap the heat from sunlight. The heat flows to a collecting device, known as manifold, is located at the top through which water flows, carrying the heat to the hot water tank. Evacuated tube collectors has one of the biggest problems of the solar water heaters existing in the market is the cost of providing warranty incurred by the manufacturers and the decreased durability of the heaters. The manifolds in use by the solar water heating systems in the market are usually made of copper and are welded to the heat transfer cups which receive the heat captured by the solar collector tubes.
