PHMB (CAS No.: 32289-58-0, full name:Poly(hexamethylenebiguanide) hydrochloride) is cationic polymer based on guanidine salts, and is a new broad spectrum, long-term effective and environmental friendly bactericide.

How PHMB works
PHMB is high molecular polymer, and its hydrophilic group is with strong positive charge when ionized in water. Bacteria is mostly with negative charge and will be absorbed by PHMB, which will inhibit the liposome synthesis of bacteria’s cell membrane to control cell division and finally kill the bacteria. This is why PHMB is more safe than other disinfectants based on chlorine.
