Product Information
Professional Products
Our Professional Products group concentrates on the development and commercialization of cyanoacrylate products for use in wound closure and wound care within a broad range of surgical and medical disciplines. These products address the needs of acute and non acute hospital markets, surgery centers and physician office based markets and in a large number of specialties. We also serve the long term care markets, dentistry and oral care, and veterinary medicine. In order to serve our markets better we have divided this product group into three distinctive product categories. They are as follows:
Surgical Solutions/ Wound Management/ Infection Prevention
Our Surgical Solutions platform serves to develop and commercialize products designed to improve clinical outcomes in the surgical OR suite and Emergency Room settings. Our flagship product for this category is a topical skin Glue which we have branded BIOFIT.
Top Features & Benefits
High-Strength 2-Octyl Cyanoacrylate Formulation
BIOFIT Glue is made with a 2-octyl cyanoacrylate formulation, which features a greater breaking strength and broader uses in clinical applications than existing n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylates.1
Antimicrobial Protective Coating
As a microbial barrier, BIOFIT Glue can also be used as an auxiliary Glue in conjunction with conventional suturing for surgical incision closure, which can reduce postoperative infection rate significantly.
Octylcyanoacrylate Technology
Provides increased flexibility designed to contribute to patient comfort and helps preserve the integrity of the Glue, preventing premature sloughing.
Precision Applicator
The patented applicator is designed to provide greater coverage with less Glue material and requires no catalyst to activate its Glue properties. This self-contained applicator is designed to increase efficiency in the OR, to be used on multiple lacerations, and to reduce waste.
Microbial Barrier and Waterproof Protection
BIOFIT Glue protects patients by preventing bacteria and water from reaching the wound, reducing the chance of infection and allowing patients to shower immediately following surgery.
Speed of Application
The application and setting of BIOFIT Glue is at least three times faster than wound closure with sutures. In less than three minutes, BIOFIT Glue provides the strength of approximated healed tissue at seven days.
No Need For Suture Removal
BIOFIT Glue sloughs off the skin during the wound healing period (usually five to 10 days). Although physicians may want to check a healed wound after this time has elapsed, a follow-up visit for suture or staple removal is not required.
Ease Of Use
The finesse required to apply BIOFIT Glue is more easily and quickly learned than that for suturing. Although proper use of BIOFIT is an easily acquired skill, physicians and licensed medical practitioners should be trained in its use to ensure optimal results.
