Product Information
The Optical Q™ Myoglobin diagnostic test is a proprietary point-of-care (POCT) fluorescence immunoassay (FIA) designed for prompt and accurate in-vitro quantitative measurement of Myoglobin.
Myoglobin is an iron and oxygen-binding protein found in skeletal and myocardial muscle tissues. Myoglobin, distantly related to the hemoglobin, traps oxygen within muscle cells, allowing cells to produce the energy required for muscles to contract. When heart or skeletal muscle is injured, myoglobin is released into the blood and can be detected within a few hours following an injury. If significant amounts of myoglobin are released into the bloodstream, which can happen after severe trauma, the excess myoglobin may cause damage to the kidneys and potentially lead to kidney failure.
The Optical Q™ Myoglobin reagent test is thus used for monitoring accidents that result in muscle trauma, seizures, surgery, muscle diseases such as muscular dystrophy, inflammation of skeletal muscles, and heart attacks.
