Three layers of non-woven fabric are sewn together to form the protective mask. The top part (= outside) of the mask that covers your nose and lips is made from polypropylene (= plastic material that can be easily shaped and bent when it is heated, and that becomes hard when it is cooled, used for food packaging and making artificial fabrics).

The middle layer called a filter (= synthetic fabric for blocking extremely small pieces of unwanted substance from the air) is made by Melting and Blowing polypropylene (= polymer).

Polymer (= substance consisting of large molecules that are made from combinations of small simple molecules) is melted by heat and forced out through holes in a die (= shaped hollow container made of metal).

The polypropylene comes out in very thin threads (= filaments) due to a strong current of heated air that blows around the openings in the die and the filaments are randomly (= without any regular pattern) put down on the surface of a hollow metal cylinder.

A net of threads produced by the process of melting and blowing polypropylene (= Melt-Blown process) is formed from various fibres in width (= length) and diameter and blocks a very small living thing that causes infectious illnesses (= virus) from coming into contact with the respiratory system (= organs that make it possible for you to breathe).

A lining (= layer of material used to cover the inside surface of the mask) as well as the outside of it is made from melted polypropylene that is spun into continuous fibres (= very thin threads) and bonded (= Spun-Bonded process) immediately after extrusion (= formed by being pushed out through small openings) and the non-woven fabric does not let tiny droplets of liquid that is produced in the mouth (= saliva) pass through it.

Independent laboratory tests have confirmed that this KF94 (= Korea Filter blocks at least 94% of harmful dust that is 0.4 micrometres in diameter from the air) protective mask filters above 98% of bacteria and extremely small pieces of dirt.

The white/black masks meet European standards on quality/safety/health and are classified under FFP2 (= Filtering Face Pieces 2 stops not less than 94% of dust in the air from passing through the mask) that is equivalent to the US N95 (= Not oil-resistant). In addition, those are registered in the USA as surgical respirators.
