Silymarin is a plant extract extracted from the seed coat of the medicinal plant Silybum marianum, which is a yellow powder or a crystalline powder. 

Soluble in acetone, ethyl acetate, ethanol and methanol, insoluble in chloroform, do not dissolve in water. The main ingredients are silibinin, isosilibinin, silidianin and silicristin and other flavonoids.
