Application of soda ash
Glass industry
Soda ash, apart from silica, calcium and other components, constitutes approx. 20% of the mix
of the raw material charge for glass melting. Silicon dioxide is the fundamental building block of
glass, soda ash is the flux and calcium is a stabiliser ensuring chemical stability.
Detergents and cleaning agents industry
Soda ash, together with other sodium compounds, forms an important active filling material in the
range of detergents and cleaning agents. As active filler, it increases the cleaning effect of soaps
and anionic surfactants.
Chemical industry
In the chemical industry, soda as is used for making mineral fertilizers (sodium nitrate, supertomasine),
sodium inorganic salts such as phosphates, chromates, sulphites, water glass, sodium organic salts, as
well as dyes and pigments (e.g. ultramarine).
Soda is used for regulating and maintaining the proper ph of solutions in the chemical processes which
require it. Soda is also used for neutralising and precipitation of metals and certain chemical compounds.
Other uses of soda

Soda Ash Shelf Life
When it is stored in a moisture-free area, soda ash has an indefinite shelf life. If soda ash is stored in an
environment with high humidity, or is allowed to get wet, it will react with moisture and can become chunky.
