Every day, tons of shredded paper come out of the offices and get thrown away. Combining the Korean traditional paper (Hanji) making and water culturing methods with the upcycled materials, such as the shredded paper, and seeds, Paper Garden makes eco-friendly and cultural handicrafts.

새싹 키우기1

절대 물에 푹 담그지 마세요!(씨앗에게도 산소가 필요해요) 종이의 물길만 키운다고 생각하시면 돼요.

Please DO NOT soak the seeds in water deeply! (The seeds need oxygen just like human) Keeping paper as moist condition is enough for raising the seeds.

아침과 저녁에 종이만 분무기로 적셔주시거나, 물로 종이를 적시고 남는 물은 따라내세요. 건조한 곳에서는 종이를 만져서 완전 마르지 않게만 보충해주세요

Spray water on paper with a sprayer or soak the paper in water at morning and night. If water is still remained in plate after this step, drain off the remaining water from the plate. If you raise the seeds in dry place, do not forget to keep the paper as moist condition. You can check condition of the paper by touching it.

혹시, 사무실 같은 곳에서 주말동안 물관리가 어려울 땐, 접시를 기울이고 새싹은 위쪽으로 하고, 다른 쪽에는 물을 넉넉히 주면 종이가 물을 머금어 오랜시간 자연스럽게 물관리가 된답니다.

If you are in difficult situation of managing the water (if you are far away from the seeds for several days), 1)tilt the plate to one side 2)put the seeds to top part of the plate 3)water the bottom part of the plate. It is effective way to manage the water since it makes the paper as long lasting moist condition.

적당한 물관리를 위해선 처음엔 햇빛보단 그늘을 권한답니다.

To manage the water properly, it is better to put the plate in shade rather than in sunlight in early days.

새싹이 난 뒤에는 물을 넉넉히 주어도 괜찮습니다.

After the seeds sprout from the paper, you can water the seeds sufficiently.

새싹 키우기2

이틀만 지나도, 씨앗부분이 부풀어 올라요.(안에서 발아 중) 스스로 종이를 찢고 올라오는 데에 3~5일이 걸리니, 부풀어 오르면 살짝 종이를 찢어주면 더 빨리 새싹을 볼 수 있어요.

After 2 day, a part of seeds is swelling.(sprouting inside) It is take 3~5 days to sprout itself. If you tear a swelling point and then you can see seeds more quickly.

새싹이 조금 늦어도 물 관리 하면서 조금만 더 기다려주세요. 생명이잖아요. 예쁜 새싹이 몸단장하느라 늦어지고 있는 거예요.

Please wait a moment if the seeds are not coming up. Seeds are also living things. It freshen itself up.

접시에서는 4~5cm 자란 상태로 3개월 이상 유지되니, 보시다가 언제든 종이채로 흙이나 화분으로 옮기면 뿌리를 뻗으며 자운영은 크게 자라며 꽃도 보실 수 있어요. (자운영 꽃을 보는 분은 소원이 이루어진다는 소문이 있어요)

Seeds remain more than 3 months growing about 4~5cm on the plate. If you want to grow up more, move the card to the flowerpot or soil. It can take root and grow bigger. Even you can see flower of milk vetch. (There’s a story that people who see a flower of milk vetch will get their wish.

새싹이 올라올 동안이 제일 여린 시기이니 아기처럼 돌봐주세요. 새싹이 나온 이후에는 물을 조금 넉넉히 주셔도 돼요. 그렇지만, 물이 너무 많으면 종이가 빨리 썩는답니다.

Sprout period is the most tender time, so please take care of it like a baby. You can water sufficiently after sprout. Though, too much water will be decay the paper card.

새싹을 보기위해 꼭 기억해주세요! 절대 푹 담그지 마세요. 종이를 적신 물기로도 충분합니다. 종이를 적시고 남는 물은 따라내 주세요.
