The key operational benefit of the Aerostat is higher mission availability resulting from its outstanding performance in strong winds. The Aerostat employs a unique and innovative high-performance, aerodynamic blimp shape design. The gas envelope of the Aerostat is fundamentally a pitch-stabilized blimp with a low drag coefficient and a very high lift-to-drag ratio. The aerodynamic lift combined with buoyancy lift provides a much higher total lift component, which reduces tether lean in strong winds. The smaller tether lean angle significantly improves sensor coverage in strong winds by maintaining a higher altitude. The additional aerodynamic lift results in a less restricted operating zone and a more predictable flight position, making the Aerostat easier to avoid by other airborne assets.

The Aerostat can operate in 20 m/s winds and is particularly effective in mountain downdrafts. This greatly reduces the risk of breakaways after the downdraft subsides. This high performing blimp is the ideal solution for operations throughout the Peninsula.
