When you talk about sun cream there are two types of sun cream.

Inorganic Sun Protecting Ingredient  (Physical) 

- It works as very thin filter on the skin surface acting as shield for UV rays  

- It is considered to be safe even for baby and less provocative for sensitive skin 

- Disadvantage is it gets very white in skin.  

- Good for sensitive skin and trouble skin. 

- Eg) titanium oxide, zinc oxide   

Organic Sun Protecting Ingredient (chemical) 

- It works as the chemical capsules absorbs the heat by chemical reaction on skin. 

- It has better smoothness when you apply on your skin than (physical) suncream 

- It can make skin sensitive due to the chemical reaction in skin 

- Good for oily and combination skin 

- Eg) Methoxycinnamate, Ethylhexyl Salicylate 

This means there are two types of formulations which can be used as Sun Screen protection. Often the cosmetic marketing team has to prove that Physical sun screen is better or Chemical sun screen is better according to the sun cream that they have.

1.     Acetyl hexapeptide-8 (Argireline)

Acetyl hexapeptide-8 (Argireline) is a peptide shown to reduce wrinkles associated with facial expressions. When we feel happy, sad or wish to communicate a message through our facial expressions, the brain sends a message to release acetylcholine, a chemical that causes facial muscles to contract. Preventing the muscle contraction is essential in preventing new wrinkles or reducing the depth of existing wrinkles. While Botox® paralyzes the muscles so that they do not move, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 intercepts the message from the brain to the muscle, preventing its contraction. In clinical testing, Acetyl Heaxapeptide-8 has been shown to reduce wrinkles by up to 27% after 30 days.

RCS are small carbonyls which contain activated reactive positions which cause them to “attack” extracellular proteins causing protein cross linking. These crosslinked proteins, known as Advanced Glycation Endproducts (AGEs), lose their functionality and are indicators of ageing and protein damage. One of the main targets of RCS is collagen. When it is croslinked by RCS, it hardens, looses elasticity and becomes yellowish.
