Product Information
TGfloc Series - Retention & Drainage Aids
TGfloc series are surface-active materials which cause the fines fraction to flocculate either with themselves or by adsorption onto the long fiber portion of the furnish, bringing greater retention by both chemical and mechanical means.
TGchem has two TGfloc systems as follow:
- TGfloc I : Cationic Linear polymers.
- TGfloc II : Cationic Branched polymers.
- TGfloc III : Anionic polymers.
TGfloc I and II series are copolymers of acrylamide with specially modified vinyl monomer and with trimethylaminoethylacrylateammonium chloride, for cationic PAMs, respectively. All of these systems can be used alone, or in combination with bentonite.
The flocculation with TGfloc I series (linear cationic polyacrylamide copolymer) of anionic furnish components represents the simplest model. A good example would be the retention of fillers and fines of fibers. When the cationic PAM gets close to the particles, it adsorbs by electrostatic attraction. Then, we observe a compression of the Stern layer by neutralization. This mechanism helps to the bridging of the two particles. Flocculated fillers and fines will then be retain more easily in the porous structure of paper.
If the shear forces of the machine are two high for the chosen polymer, the flocculates can be destroyed and the retention can therefore be reduced. A higher molecular weight polymer, or a more structured polymer have to be selected to better resist those forces.
TGfloc II series (highly branched products) can then be used in order to maintain good retention and runnability of the overall process. They are indeed very resistant to high shear that allows them to stabilize the flocculation all along the paper processing.
TGfloc branched products having relatively low molecular weight provide dense flocs with lower bounded water. They are well adapted to high basis weight papers where the press section may perturb sheet formation if too much water remains entrapped inside the paper structure. Structured polymers increase drainability by avoiding the presence of bind water within the compact flocs. More water is removed on the web enter the press section with a high dry content.
The advantage of such system is the recuperation of the broken flocs from the first stage of flocculation by the polymer. Then, a stronger floc is obtained. Drainage is improved without affecting the sheet properties and formation.

3. Heath and Safety
Toxicity, caused by TGfloc series products alone and when incorporated into papers and paperboards, has not been reported so far. However, since TGfloc series are acidic, contact with the solution should be avoided. When exposed to the emulsions and its solutions, wash with fresh water immediately.

- Company introduction
-
Taegwang Chemicals Co., Ltd. is a leader in the development and production of paper additives in Korea. Started out as Taegwang Chemicals Company in 1982 which was our first step into paper chemicals industry, we have been growing and expanding ever since. In 1987, we re-established as Taegwang Chemicals Co., Ltd. with our accumulated technological know-how and expertise to fulfill our customers' needs and meet their requirements.
Our success has been resulted from continuous and thriving effort in development and improvement of our products while accumulating new and advanced technologies. It is no wonder that we, Taegwang, are the first in Korea to develop and supply alkaline sizing agents (AKD emulsion size) which contributes cost reduction and environmental impacts as well as improvements of quality for paper industry in Korea.
Since 1987, Taegwang has been providing technical aids to paper industries, which converted for alkaline papermaking, and Taegwang is now recognized as the leader in technology for alkaline papermaking in Korea. Our major product lines are AKD SIZING AGENTS, ROSIN-BASED SIZING AGENTS, FIXING AGENTS, WET- & DRY-STRENGTH AGENTS, DYE FIXING AGENTS, RETENTION AIDS (PROGRAMS), and ANIONIC TRASH CATCHERS.
We will not stop here, but continually thrive and step forward until we become a leader in the world-wide paper chemicals industry.
