Features
ORC's short arc mercury xenon lamps were developed in 1973 to support the growing market of ultraviolet photoexposure systems. The UV photoexposure process. used widely to produce circuit boards. and cure epoxy resins for various types of electronic devices,relies on long-life,high-output UV lamps of the highest quality to maintain a high-speed production environment. ORC's mercury xenon lamps combine high luminance, short arc gaps, and maintenance-free operation.
The lamps are designed for DC operation, which affords greater stability, extended lamp life, enhanced performance during start-up (instant ignition), and ease of optical alignment.
Our design and manufacturing expertise has been developed and refined over more than two decades, resulting in the production of consistently reliable lamps. The materials used are the highest grade, optically clear, ozone free, fused silica quartz, along with 99.999% pure xenon gas, proprietary tungsten, and thoriated tungsten electrode material.
Each mercury xenon lamp has specifically designed electrodes which take into account the geometry necessary for proper heat dissipation and light generation within the lamp envelope. The fine dispersed thorium content in the molecular structure of the cathode allows higher electron emission, which dramatically reduces tip erosion (burn-back), and arc "wander,"thus improving both lamp stability and output.
Mercury is added to enhance the spectral energy of the arc in the ultraviolet region, adding energy essential to the exposure curing process. Mercury xenon arc lamps designed by ORC incorporate a sophisticated seal that provides an isothermal arc chamber to distribute the mercury vapor evenly;as a result, the warm-up time required for the mercury to vaporize and enter the arc plasma is greatly reduced and the increased ultraviolet output is maintained throughout the extended life of the lamp.
The ORC lamp is produced using sophisticated production equipment to exacting standards in ORC's modern manufacturing facility in the USA. Skilled craftsmen with many years of experience in processing quartz products operate the equipment.
