A new discovery in a hundred years
- Speaker Development
It has been more than one century since the first speaker was invented. Since it was known that the electrical signals made cone activated by the assistance of magnetic power, there have been many researches and additional improvements in speaker manufacture, which include some significant inventions.
Among them, there have been different trials using ribbon or bending wave including improvement of conventional speakers as well. However, the units containing magnet, voice coil and cone are still in use in the speaker manufacturing. In particular, the woofers reproducing low-frequency sounds are used 100%. - Limitation of Woofer - Narrow Magnetosphere
Such a traditional unit converts an electrical signal into moving energy through the voice coil placed at the both ends of magnet. However, the traditional circuit causes the deviation of voice coil from the magnetosphere by its limitation, when low-frequency sounds are reproduced.
In order to solve this problem, the woofer of 1000-watt with a gigantic weight and the self magnetic circuit were developed by Adireaudio in the U.S.A. Therefore, there were such demerits as decreased sound pressure, heat generation, and sudden disconnection of coil by strong output power, when reproduced below 100Hz. But, until now, these mal-functions have been regarded as natural results caused by woofer's characteristics. These view points shall be changed by the appearance of new system of Turbosonic . - Subwoofer are needed
Such characteristics of woofer are influencing on the new formats of disk (e.g. DVD, SACD, and etc.), so subwoofers are used as channel 5.1 instead of channel 5. In order to reproduce frequencies smoothly to 20Hz with 5 speakers, additional 5 subwoofers are needed. However, subwoofers may be disappeared or new functions such as reproduction less than 30Hz or that of vibration would be considered, when new unit of Turbosonic will be launched.
To overcome the limitation- Development process
- Necessity is the mother of invention !
There are abundant episodes over the procedures of this unit development, as many world-wide invention stories tell. Why did Turbosonic want new units, which had a great confidence in developing speakers or amps globally and domestically? It came from the development of speaker using 'anger', which was German bending wave speaker. On August, 2003, we came across, observed and confirmed 'anger' speaker as the most idealistic unit, and we began to design two-way speaker applying this system. There have been many trial and error efforts, modifications and observance tests. Finally, we found that application of 2 units is better than that of 1 unit (originally the application of 'anger' uses 3 units) and also, the most ideal cross-over points with a woofer. As the process development was finalized, we found that the woofer of 'anger' had a high efficiency with high speed. Therefore, we decided to develop the unit separately for this system. Afterwards, a new system was born, and throughout the complicated procedures, we can have more qualified system than expected.

Reproduction of deep bass frequencies

New system does not deviate from the magnetosphere even in the wide excursion . Therefore, we can gain bigger Xmax. In other words, there is a stable tendency to the extent of 15, 20, and 30 Hz, which means that drivers as small as 6.5" and 8" may be used as a subwoofer . |
Flat and broad SPL curve

The characteristics of deep bass frequencies including high frequencies have been improved. 8" unit tested recently, produces frequencies from 30 Hz to 8 kHz with the spectrum of +- 1dB. High efficiency

The objective of the development was high efficiency. When the voice coil deviates from the magnetosphere, energy is wasted. But, the new system transforms electric energy to sound through surrounding electronic power until the last 1 watt. However, it does not mean 100% efficiency, rather better efficiency than existing unit. |

Low heating value can have not only higher output, but also good durability. Distortion will decrease over all the frequency bands. |
Small enclosure capacity |
The new unit has good bass frequencies, so, it functions strongly, even in a small enclosure. From now on, the design pattern of speaker cylinder would be changed, and only closed type would be enough. |
Quick response

At this moment, the response speed required by the new format such as SACD and etc. is about 10/1 millionth seconds, which 'anger' only meets this speed in the middle range. The speed of existing units is very slow and the new system is in the middle between Manger system and other speakers. Positioning of musical instruments depends on the speed. |

Needless to say, the components such as stable sound pressure level, clear and clean bass frequencies, high efficiency, low distortion, and quick response result in perfect sounds. Input signal is turned into sound, no more, no less. We hear bass frequencies loudly, silently, strongly and mildly as recorded, and the positioning of the instrument is made correctly between high and low volume.
