Korean Bottled Water Makes Its First Export to Saipan Across the Pacific

B Company, based in the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), submitted a purchase inquiry through tradeKorea regarding Korean bottled water products. The buyer was looking for bottled water to be sold at its local retail store in Saipan and specifically requested export-exclusive packaging and labeling rather than products originally designed for the domestic Korean market. After approximately one month of direct communication to understand the buyer’s requirements and assess the potential for distribution in the Saipan market, the matching manager proceeded with a business matching between the buyer and K Company.

In response to the buyer’s active purchasing interest, K Company reviewed potential manufacturers capable of producing the requested products and prepared for the project. A manufacturer with experience in export production was selected, and a new private-label brand and packaging design suitable for the overseas market were developed. The completed label and design drafts were shared with the buyer for review. Based on the buyer’s feedback, the labeling information was revised accordingly, and final approval was obtained.

Following the buyer’s request, the order quantity was adjusted. After the first official purchase order (PO) was received and full payment was confirmed, production officially commenced. During the production process, an automated labeling system was applied so that the labels could be affixed to the bottles during production, ensuring efficient and consistent labeling.

This process helped ensure the quality and consistency of the export products. Once production was completed, the products were shipped, and the final shipping documents were provided to the buyer, successfully completing the first transaction. This case demonstrates how accurately reflecting a buyer’s specific requirements for export-exclusive packaging and product development led to the successful completion of the first order. The transaction is also expected to develop into an ongoing business relationship through potential repeat orders in the future.
