What is the difference

between PLLA, PDLA, and PDLLA?

Lactic acid and its polymer, polylactic acid, have several optical forms, ncluding two stereoisomers (L- and D-forms) and a combined D, L- f o r m .

The L- and D-form molecules are mirror images of each other,

like left and right hands, and cannot be superimposed in space. 

Therefore, the umbrella term PLA (polylactic acid) encompasses all three forms:

PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid) 

PDLA (poly-D-lactic acid) 

PDLLA (poly-D,L-lactic acid)
